Rebuilding Meridian's trading interface for real time

We rebuilt a legacy trading dashboard into a real-time interface that holds under load — 3.2s to 400ms median, 40% lift in daily active use.

How the project went

The challenge

Legacy debt meeting modern volatility

Meridian's existing infrastructure was struggling with the increased frequency of high-volatility events. The interface, built on a decade-old stack, suffered from significant latency, often lagging behind the market by several seconds during peak volume. This wasn't just a performance issue; it was a trust issue.

The dashboard required a full architectural rethink without disrupting the daily operations of hundreds of institutional traders who relied on the platform every second.

The approach

Building for sub-second precision

We implemented a delta-diffing strategy for the front-end, ensuring that only changed data points were re-rendered. By moving to a WebSocket-first communication model and utilizing virtualized grids, we were able to handle thousands of concurrent price updates without dropping frames.

The design system was rebuilt from the ground up, optimized for information density and peripheral-vision alerts, allowing traders to monitor global shifts with minimal cognitive load.

Results

Restoring the competitive edge

Performance benchmarks surpassed all initial targets. Median time-to-interact dropped by 88%. More importantly, the qualitative feedback from the trading desk indicated a profound shift: they no longer had to cross-reference with other feeds to confirm Meridian's data.

  • The rebuilt Meridian trading console running on a desk of paired monitors
  • Night traffic moving through a financial district intersection
  • A dense grid of live market tiles on a trading wall

The Good words

“We did not ask for a faster dashboard. We asked to trust our own screens again. Develi rebuilt the thing under our feet without stopping the desk, and now the interface keeps up with the market instead of chasing it.”
